Singapore 2019: Satay by the Bay – dinner and lunch

Satay by the Bay – Day 1 Dinner

Tourist attractions are clustered together in the downtown area. A good few minutes of walking (and picture taking) led us to the nearest hawker center experience in the area – Satay By the Bay.

Aside from skewered meat, there are a lot of cuisines available – Indian, Malay, Singaporean, Chinese. Food options range from seafood, barbecue, snacks, and even a buffet.

While waiting for others to arrive, I ordered a Popiah. It reminded me of lumpiang sariwa back home with a spicy kick and more nutty flavor. It’s quite filling so I had to hold back a bit to save room for the main dishes.

Chicken Satay – Favorite for tonight. Super love the sweet peanut sauce. The amount of meat on each stick is just right for a single dip.

*I don’t have photos of these next two because everyone was so hungry and we were in a hurry to watch the last Lights show for the night.*

Chicken Marsala – My cousin’s pick who loves Indian food. A piece of chicken breast generously covered in marsala sauce.

Cheese Roti and Plain Roti – a favorite of the kids! We “adults” dipped some in the excess marsala.

Satay By the Bay – Day 2 Lunch

The next day we had lunch here after visiting the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. There were less people and many vacant tables unlike last night when we had to wait for a table to free up. Some food stalls were also closed like the buffet at the back.

Salted Egg Softshell Crab!! – this was my favorite. Imagine the addicting taste of salted egg of Irvin’s but instead of crispy snacks, chops of softshell crab were enveloped in a batter of this flavor. There’s also a dipping sauce to complement the dish. I could put these in a paper bag and snack on them all day.

prawns are buried under the cereal

Cereal prawn – I’ve just had a craving for good cereal prawn for years ever since the Singaporean restaurant near our place closed shop. Finally able to taste that toasted salty (hint of sweet) cereal mixture with pieces of shrimp. The only thing stopping me from continuously eating this was I had to remove the head/tail/shell of the shrimp before I get a bite.

Beef Hor Fun – beef slices and thick rice noodles bathe in a thick beef soup, almost like a sauce.

Mixed seafood rice – carbs for this meal which has bits of corn, carrots, peas, egg, and crab sticks

Note that everything we ordered was in the small serving size option but was already good enough for 2 to 3. the medium and large serving can sure feed a whole group.
