Singapore 2019: [Part 1] Solo flight SG bound

Pouring rain can’t stop my solo flight to Singapore!

Rainy flight day

This trip was kinda planned but kinda not. I’ve been meaning to visit SG since last year but didn’t have a chance. When I found a seat sale at a travel fair a few months ago, booked a flight and planned for a weekend trip. With the opening of Jewel at Changi, I guess the timing is just right.

Quick Summary of the airport process MNL-SG:

  • Security Check
  • Travel Tax
  • Check-in and get Boarding pass
  • Immigration
  • 2nd security check
  • Area for shops, dining, forex, mobile needs
  • Boarding gate bag checking
  • Actual plane boarding

For the pre-flight meal I decided to eat at Cafe Xpress instead of the neighbouring stall, Starbucks, because 1) the line is shorter, and 2) the seats at Cafe Xpress looked more comfortable 🙂 I had to share a table though with another lady.

There’s a free water dispenser by the way. You get to choose between cold, warm, or hot.

Flight was slightly delayed because of the red lightning alert. Good thing it only set us back around 20-30 minutes.

It’s not my first time to ride a budget airline. Several years ago, I flew via Tiger Air (which was bought by Cebu Pacific) to Singapore with family. I can’t remember much about it because it was a midnight flight. All I remember was that we had to carry our bags up the tarmac because it wasn’t connected to the departure gate.

Jetstar’s plane is quite small as expected. The aisle can only fit only carry on luggage side ways one at a time. AirAsia’s plane for local flights seem bigger.

Tucked at the back seat are the usual magazines, souvenir catalogue, and the menu. The people beside me have pre-ordered meals which smelled nice though it seemed smaller in size compared to the in flight meal of a non budget airline. What made me curious  was the ice cream cup that came with some of the meals. ‘Proudly Singaporean’ labelled Udders. I wonder how it tastes in comparison to other ice cream brands.

Meanwhile, I ate the first triangle half of my Chicken Sandwich from Cafe Xpress by Illy which I bought back at the terminal.

A generous thick filling of a paste made up of chicken, mayo, and a bit of veggies which worked well with the wheat bread which seemed rather dry but was a good choice for this sandwich combo. Soft white bread would have easily broken apart. The celery gave an occasional crunch. Not sure if there was onion.

Near the last few bites I tasted a bit of black pepper. It made me realize that adding some freshly cracked pepper grounds would been my preference.

Touch down, SG!

Logged in to the airport wifi by scanning my passport and getting a unique passowrd. Then, lined up for immigration, and picked up the sim card I bought via Klook at UOB money changer.

Met up with my cousin here. Got a reloadable card, and off to explore we go!

My first look at Jewel.
