Singapore 2019: [Part 4] Flower Dome and Cloud Forest

And we’re back at the Gardens the Bay Complex on Day 2 morning.

The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest were must-go places for me. It wasn’t open yet when I visited Singapore for the first time a few years ago. That’s why I chose this over Universal Studios which I already visited then. Though still, I am a theme park kind of tourist and wouldn’t mind taking another ride at Battle Start Galactica (Cylon track) if there was time. It’s still by far the most thrilling ride I have been on – with feet dangling through loops and speeds bringing out a mixture of screams and laughs of fun (the red track is definitely faster tho not as much loops and feet secured on the coaster floor)

Flower Dome

Lucky to have timed my visit during the Orchid Festival!

Indeed, the scent of orchids greet you once you enter. A good part of the seasonal display features different kinds of orchids – colors, sizes, and scents.

Other flowers were just as interesting. A good part of the species I only saw today. I found some specifically interesting like this flower blooming downwards, this two toned flower (horizontal color difference as if a line separated it, not the usual circular progression of color), a winter themed bush, and this pretty deep purple bloom (dubbed by my younger cousin as an evil flower ‘coz of the color).

Cloud Forest

Water rushing down from Cloud Forest’s 30 meter waterfall crash down into a cold mist with a medium breeze to welcome visitors. This was formerly the tallest indoor waterfall before it was dethroned by the Vortex at Jewel Changi a few months ago. Spent a few minutes at the indoor waterfall trying to get a good picture and just enjoying the rush.

Lush greenery covered a man made indoor mountain where the Cloud Walk and the lower Treetop Walk are connected. Get to enjoy various plants as you walk around. Look down if you dare. You can also have a view of the Singapore flyer and the bay.

A few orchids were in a transparent case and guests can sample the scent of these flowers from an opening. There are four categories, my favorite was this one under the Sweet category. The ones labeled as Spicy are quite memorable and unique for a flower, but not my preference.

There was also a display of rocks you would usually see in a cave.

On the way out were also some miniature orchids, and the final stretch of vegetation before the exit.

On a tourist high, I bought a necklace as a souvenir to remind me of today!

Then we had lunch at Satay by the Bay.
