Food: China Blue – Classy Chinese Cuisine

Took the chance to try this fine dining restaurant with a discount – 50% off the total bill with a minimum purchase, thanks to a credit card promo. The minimum purchase was quite a sum so we were able to order a number of items. Here’s what we had.

House Specialty Steamed Truffle Mushroom Buns

Mimicking button mushrooms in shape, complete with the cracked brown pattern, this dimsum is one the popular items in this restaurant. Instead of a custard filling in other versions, ours had chopped up mushrooms inside. The earthiness of the mushroom does not overpower the mantao bun. Personally, I would like to have more mushrooms in this.

Crispy Fried Shrimp with Wasabi and Mango Salsa

Wasabi mayo spiciness and cream combination, mixed with the sweetness of mango, reminds me of the taste of Japanese California rolls. Instead of processed kani sticks, plump breaded shrimps is the main seafood. I could munch on these all day.

Oven Baked Scallops with Oriental Cheese Dressing

Scallops! My current top pick for shellfish. Loved the mixture of cheese and the soft scallop meat. Hope there was more.

Paper thin Crispy Beef with Sweet and Spicy Sauce

This is a surprising favorite. Add the spicy kick to the crunchiness of the paper thin beef for an appetizing item. Beefiness in each piece was maintained even if the slices were so thin. It’s like an upgraded snack. Could it be called…meat chips?

Deep Fried Crab Claw Coated with Shrimp Paste and Salted Egg Taoso

As if a prized jewel, the crab claw is served in a wooden box. Opening the box reveals a plump claw coated with salted egg. Bite into it and you can see a fish cake layer cover the actual crab claw meat. Plus points for the presentation. Hoping there was a bit more crab meat, or more pieces in the serving though.

Bi Fong Tang style Crispy Fried Soft Shell Crab

The soft shell crab itself had no fishy aftertaste. You just have to dip it in the sauce to complete the flavor.

Braised Five-spice Beef Short Rib and Yunan Tiang Xing grains, and Home Made Paprika Noodle

Beef was tender and the flavor from five-spice could easily be recognized. The noodles here was the only major carbohydrate in our order. We had to take some home since we were already full from everything were had so far.

Crispy Pumpkin coated with Salted Duck Egg

My favorite vegetable together with a current favorite seasoning/flavor. Too bad that this arrived last and we were already quite full after sampling (and finishing some) of the first dishes served. Still had an addicting factor from the salted egg.

Chilled Almond Pudding with Lychee Sorbet

Refreshing taste of almond and lychee sorbet to end this meal.  This isn’t sugary sweet at all. Perfect for those who don’t have a sweet tooth. The mini ube turon serves as a crunchy break from the soft jelly.

You know you’re in a fine dining restaurant when the menu item names list out all the ingredients – double purpose as a description. Just look at those names I listed.

The ambiance is good for formal meetups or special get togethers with friends and family. They also have function rooms for bigger groups needing privacy. There’s a glass wall facing Manila Bay so you could watch the sunset or fireworks (before it was banned) while having your meal/
