Bebang Halohalo – 24 Karat Gold Shavings on Creamy and Fresh Pinoy Dessert with a Twist

Edible Gold. Perfect if you are looking to add a little glamour and prosperity into your life through eating. Prefer the classics with various twists? They have both at Bebang Halohalo.

The weather these days is quite unpredictable – today was a hot weekend morning with a cloudy afternoon. Good thing we can enjoy this treat rain or shine! Hot weather go-to snack or dessert? Of course halo-halo will always be on a Pinoy’s list. As for cloudy days, we usually find comfort in hot drinks and soup. But why not try something sweet and creamy and just as comforting on a gloomy rainy day as well?

Bebang Halohalo currently has one physical store in Shaw Mandaluyong. Worry not. They deliver to selected areas in Metro Manila. They put ice in the bag to ensure frozen halo-halo upon arrival. You can also opt to purchase their very own insulated bag that fits 6 halo-halo cups at most. Order for the whole family, or for office meriendas!

Halohalo is served in familiar milk-tea-like cups. Visually appealing, you can clearly see each layer of the ingredients comprising each cup. It makes me more excited to taste it.

“The creamiest halohalo in the solar system” – that is their claim. Indeed, the halo-halo was creamy! And even if some started melting a bit due to the hot noontime weather, the halo-halo did not taste watered down. Still ‘malinamnam’. I don’t think there’s a direct translation in English. ‘Delicious’ does not encapsulate ‘malinamnam’. 😁 The secret, I think, is that they used frozen milk then shaved it, instead of the traditional milk poured onto shaved ice. Similar to a bingsu, but flavor-wise it’s definitely Filipino.

Here’s a glimpse of the variety of flavors:

Royal Halohalo
24 Karat Edible Gold, Frozen Milk, Leche Flan, Pandan jelly, Strawberry, Peach, Blueberry, Mango, Sago, Ube Halaya, Special Macapuno, Pistachio, Cashew, Mallow Fluff

Just seeing that the cup for the Royal Halohalo is taller than the rest, it lets you know that it is “above the rest”. It’s the first time I ever tried gold shavings on my food! The sheer amount of ingredients add to the premium feel of it too. Ingredients like pistachio, strawberry, blueberry, and peach, give off a majestic appeal. Of course, the mallow fluff is a welcome addition and will surely be loved by sweet tooth fans. I almost forgot, it comes with a golden spoon, different from the plastic dessert spoons of the other variants.

Special Halohalo
Frozen Milk, Leche flan, Pandan Jelly, Sago, Mais, Nata, Banana cinnamon, Ube Halaya, Rice Crispies

You can truly enjoy the creamy frozen milk in this one. Just the right amount of ingredients for a halo-halo, allowing a balance between the texture of the shaved frozen milk and the chewy occasional bites from the fresh ingredients. Egg pudding at the bottom of the cup (leche flan) wasn’t too sweet either. Rice crispies were, well, crispy The pandan jelly cut into strips really fit into the halo-halo mouthfeel. I’m adding this to my favorites.

Presidential Halohalo
Frozen Milk, Leche flan, Pandan Jelly, Ube Halaya, Sago, Mais, Nata, Banana cinnamon, Langka, Special Macapuno, Rice crispies

A level up from the special, here comes the Presidential Halohalo with added langka and special macapuno. I remember always adding langka to my halohalo when I was a kid. The macapuno tastes fresh and not ‘makunat’.

Halukay Ube Halohalo
Ube Flavored Frozen Milk, Leche flan, Pandan Jelly, Ube Halaya, Sago, Mais, Nata, Banana Cinnamon, Langka, Special Macapuno, Rice Crispies

Frozen milk comes in various flavors. This one has ube flavored frozen milk. More ube goodness in each cup, recommended for lovers of the purple yam flavor. Other ingredients used are similar to the Presidential Halohalo.

Mango Graham
Frozen milk, Leche Flan, Pandan Jelly, Caramel Syrup, Fresh Mango, Graham

Another one of my personal favorites! The mangoes are sweet which go well with the frozen milk and crushed graham. The thing with using fresh fruit on desserts is that you can never be sure if it tastes as good as it looks. Sometimes you get sour strawberries, or tasteless apples. That’s not the case for this one. Plus points for having sweet mango cubes on this cup.

Banana Cinnamon
Frozen Milk, Leche Flan, Vanilla Jelly, Sago, Banana, Caramel Syrup, Rice cripsies

This definitely reminds me of turon. Instead of a fried wrapper, the banana is wrapped in creamy frozen milk, along with chewy additions like sago and jelly.

Other variations of Bebang Halohalo feature flavored frozen milk like – melon, matcha, pandan, and chocolate. If you are into berrilicious fruits, they have Strawberry Pistacio and Blueberry Pistachio halohalo in classic frozen milk.

Not into halo-halo? Taho is available in different flavors. Craving for something savory after the dessert? Premium hotdogs are also part of their menu.
